Missing southeast Iowa missing man cold case reopened
by Zach Richardson Wednesday, April 28th 2021

FREMONT, Iowa — After years of sitting unsolved, the cold case of a missing southeast Iowa man has now been reopened for further investigation.

Harry Dennis Milligan of Avery, Iowa, has been missing since 1984.

He was reportedly last seen in Albia, heading back to his home in Avery.

For years now, Harry’s brother, Mark Milligan, has constantly searched for answers about his brother's whereabouts.

With Milligan’s consistent effort and community involvement, the case has been reopened and is currently being investigated by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

Although there's still a lot of work to be done, Milligan says he believes this is a great first step in finding answers regarding his brother's disappearance.

"I’ve talked to the sheriff, the DCI agent that was involved, the deputy over there. Right now, it seems like things are moving in the right direction. Hopefully it won't be long and the answers will start coming out."
Milligan says he will continue to push to bring light to this case.

Harry Milligan’s disappearance is not the only local case on the Iowa DCI's "Cold Case Unit's" list.

There were another 150 cases on that list, including the unsolved murder of Timothy Earney, of Albia, who died of a gunshot wound at his home on February 2, 1984.

Iowa man continues to search for missing brother
by Zach Richardson Saturday, December 12th 2020

"We were super close. He was a fun, very smart guy. We had a blast together when we were young."

FREMONT, Iowa — Mark Milligan and his older brother Harry Dennis Milligan had a very close relationship growing up.

Unfortunately, that relationship was disrupted in 1984. On June 30 1984, Harry went out with his friends in Albia, Iowa. On July 1, 1984, Milligan was reported missing.

He was reportedly last seen heading back to his home in Avery, Iowa. After not hearing from him for a few days, the family began to worry and question the situation.

"Yeah there was concern on my family's part and my mom and dad's part,” Milligan said. “It got worse as time went by. My brother didn't take off and leave. Something happened."
For years now, Mark has been gathering information about the night his brother went missing.

It is a difficult task to piece all that information together but he doesn't plan on easing up in hopes of finding answers about his brother's location.

"Somebody has to come forward. Somebody has to know something and sooner or later, their moral compass points them in the right direction to say 'okay, I’ve got to say something.' I’m going to keep pushing. I'm going to keep questioning people,” Milligan said. “I'm going to keep digging for information looking for that one little piece of information that tells me where he's at."
Milligan hasn't been alone in the search for his brother.

He started a Facebook page called 'Harry Dennis Milligan Still Missing' and he has received tremendous support from the community.

The Facebook page has worked so well that it has caught the attention of people nationwide wanting to help spread the word.

Milligan is very grateful for all of the support.

"I can't say enough to the community and the people,” Milligan said. “I mean, it's amazing."
At this point, Milligan isn't looking to solve a crime, he just wants his brother back.

"I just want to find him. I want to find him and bring him home. My parents were never able to do that. That's always been my mission is to bring him home."
